Questions to Ask Every Wedding Photographer Before You Book

Most of the decision happens in the first conversation, not on the wedding day itself. We often hear from couples who spoke to another photographer first and aren't sure they asked the right questions. So here are the ones we think matter most – not just because they favor us, but because they'll help you make the right call with any photographer you're considering.

1. Who will actually be photographing your wedding?

With us, the answer is simple: Pavel leads every wedding personally, plans the day with you directly, and is the one behind the camera. Still, always ask this directly – some studios send out different photographers without mentioning it upfront.

2. What's the backup plan if something goes wrong?

Illness, equipment failure, a delay on the way to the venue – ask specifically what happens if the photographer can't make it. An honest answer matters more than a fast "don't worry about it."

3. Will you see a full wedding gallery, or only highlights?

Portfolios naturally show the strongest shots. Ask to see at least one complete gallery from a real wedding, so you get an honest sense of pacing, consistency, and style across an entire day.

4. How would the photographer describe their own style?

Documentary, posed, editorial – these terms get used loosely. We work documentary-style: we look for the moment before it happens, rather than staging it. Ask what that actually means for your day, not just which label gets used.

5. What's included in the quote – and what isn't?

Hours of coverage, number of photographers, how much editing is included, usage rights, travel costs – all of that belongs in a transparent quote. A vague answer here is worth paying attention to.

6. How does editing and delivery actually work?

Our post-production runs through a dedicated team: a video editor based in Germany for fast, local turnaround, and an experienced editing team in India handling the volume of image editing. Ask for a realistic delivery window – "fast" without a timeframe isn't an answer.

7. Is there video or behind-the-scenes coverage available?

If that matters to you: we work with our own videographer for cinematic wedding coverage, plus a dedicated BTS videographer capturing the day from behind the scenes. Ask whether that's part of the package or booked separately.

8. What's actually in the contract?

Cancellation terms, liability, usage rights, delivery deadlines – a serious offer always comes with a clear written contract, not just a verbal agreement.

9. Does this photographer genuinely fit your wedding?

We do sometimes say no, when we can tell our style isn't the right match for a couple or a day. A good first conversation should feel right on both sides – not like a sales pitch.

10. How much planning happens before the day itself?

Timeline, family photos, key moments – the more that's worked out in advance, the more relaxed the day itself feels. Ask how the photographer supports you with that.

In the end, it's not about how many questions you ask, but whether the answers feel honest. If you're looking for a photographer who documents your wedding with a real instinct for the moment before it happens, we'd love to talk. Book a free first conversation
